Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) has appeared on this countdown of the Top 40 scary stories from 1800-1849 no less than four other times. He first appeared at spot 28 with Hop-Frog. His next appearance was at spot 22 with The Cask of Amontillado. Poe's third appearance was at spot 18 for his devilish story The Black Cat. He next appeared at 16 with The Masque of the Red Death.
